A skin disinfectant is a solution that, when applied, reduces the level of microorganisms and other foreign objects present on the skin.

What are the uses of skin disinfectants?

Skin disinfectants are used for a variety of purposes. Some of their most common uses are:

  • Preventing infections in minor wounds
  • Disinfecting skin before surgery or other medical procedures
  • Disinfecting mucous membranes before a medical procedure

How do skin disinfectants work?

Skin disinfectants work by killing bacteria sitting on the upper layer of skin. That means when skin is cleaned with disinfectant, germs present on the skin will be inactive within minutes of exposure.

Skin disinfectants are safe and non-toxic, so they don’t pose any risk. Yet, one must use it according to instructions.
